Commander Bio

Deng Shichang (1849–1894) was a Chinese naval officer and one of the most celebrated commanders of the Qing Dynasty's modern fleet during the First Sino-Japanese War. He commanded the protected cruiser Zhiyuan and was renowned for his unwavering commitment to his nation, fighting against overwhelming odds at the Battle of the Yalu River in 1894. His legacy remains a defining symbol of naval courage in Chinese maritime history.
